Who can join the GMS?
The membership to The Geriatric Medicine Society of Malta is open to:
Consultants and Resident Specialists in Geriatric Medicine
Psychiatrists with a special interest in elderly people
Consultants in allied specialties and community medicine
Junior doctors training for a career in geriatric medicine
Doctors holding higher degrees and who are engaged in research
Membership Types
- Ordinary
- Associate
- Honorary
Ordinary Membership
Ordinary membership shall be open to qualified medical practitioners, registered with the Medical Council of Malta, who:
- Appear on the Specialist register of Geriatrics as published by the Medical Council of Malta
- or is registered in a recognised training post in the specialisation of Geriatric Medicine and registered with the Medical Council of Malta.
Ordinary members will have full voting rights, can propose and serve as seconders to amendments to the Statute and be eligible to stand for election as a member of the Committee.
Associate Membership
Associate membership shall be open to: Qualified medical practitioners, registered with the Medical Council of Malta who do not satisfy any of the criteria for ordinary membership. Associate members shall have no voting rights, cannot propose or serve as seconders to amendments to the Statute and shall not be eligible to stand for election as a member of the Committee.
Honorary Membership
Benefits
- Attendance to CME lectures organised by the society
- Able to stand for the election of the committee
- The right to attend and participate in the AGM
- Able to contribute through the representatives on the committee to debates and decisions affecting policies regarding the health care of older people in the Malta
- Access to the CME link of the society’s website.
